Business Alerts

Would your sales team like to receive an e-mail when one of your customers has not had any activity for the last month? Does your warehouse manager need to know immediately when the quantity available for an item is less than the reorder point? Would your controller want to be informed before a valuable vendor discount is due to expire? If you think that this information could help you manage your company more efficiently and provide a higher level of customer service, consider Business Alerts.

The Business Alerts module monitors your MAS 90/200 database 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. Business Alerts will notify you, via e-mail, when a pre-defined situation has occurred. For example, if the past-due amount for a customer exceeds a specified dollar amount, an e-mail can be sent to the Collections and Sales Department to apprise the proper employees of this customer’s condition.

Business Alerts can also be used to communicate directly with your customers and vendors. New Sales Orders, Quotes, Invoices or Pricing Specials can be automatically e-mailed to customers. Vendors can be notified when inventory levels reach the pre-defined levels or when the warehouse has received shipments.

Eleven pre-defined alert scripts are packaged within Business Alerts. They can be tailored to fit your specific needs. Additionally, custom scripts can be programmed to supply you with the information you need.

Viruses - They're Here!

You check every diskette and Internet download coming into your office. No matter how tight your security, a computer virus can sneak through. You may have a virus on your hard drive or network server right now and not know it. There are several types of computer viruses; some show their destructive intent immediately, while others lie dormant, just waiting for a pre-determined time/condition before launching.

Your only solution is to become familiar with safety procedures to guarantee the integrity of your data. The first thing you need is a continuously updated virus checker. A few of the best-known programs on the market are McAfee’s Anti-Virus, Norton’s Anti-Virus and eTrust InoculateIT by Computer Associates. Once you have a reliable Anti-Virus program, be sure to follow these steps:

1) Be certain every computer in the office has access to this program. Load registered copies on EVERY stand-alone PC and the network server.

2) Be sure the anti-virus program scans ALL incoming files and e-mails.

3) If you find a virus, immediately clear it out not only from the hard drive, but from any backups that were made. If, due to compression schemes, it is impossible to clean the backups, make new backups with the "clean" data, and immediately destroy the virus-ridden one(s). Trace back where the virus ORIGINATED. If it was copied to the hard drive from a working diskette or CD, it could very easily return if not eradicated at the source.

4) Virus scan all your computers every day at boot-up, and on your server immediately before backup.

5) If the computer displays any strange/unexplained behavior, or any data appears to be missing, STOP what you are doing. Write down exactly where you were and what the problem was, and run your anti-virus software immediately.

6) Remind everyone not to open e-mail attachments from anyone they don't know or if the subject of the e-mail seems unusual from known sources.

7) Make sure your anti-virus software is compatible with your critical programs. Some programs require specific exclusions - check with your software vendor or the publisher.

Best Who?
Good, Better, Best. Never Let It Rest. Until the Good Becomes the Better... and the Better, BEST!

By now, you probably know that Sage has a new name. Due to a trademark dispute, Sage Software, Inc. officially became Best Software, Inc. on December 17, 2001. All packages including subscription plan updates will now come from Best Software. Best’s new URL is www.bestsoftware.com.

Best Support Deadline - July 1st !

MAS 90/MAS 200 version 3.7 is scheduled to be released July 1, 2002. On that date, Best Software will start enforcing their policy that only two versions of MAS90/200 will be supported (the current version [3.70] and one previous version [3.6x]). Solution Strategists will continue to support our clients on older versions; however, we, also, will be unable to receive support from Best.

In order to provide the technical expertise needed to keep your accounting system running smoothly, we recommend that if your Best Subscription Plan is not current, you should renew by contacting Best Client Care at 800.854.3415 directly or through Solution Strategists Inc. We have highly trained professionals to implement and ensure that you have the proper tools necessary to utilize your MAS 90/MAS 200 application to its potential. Please call with any questions that you may have.

Upgrade Caution!

Before upgrading your workstations or server, please be aware that there is a Supported Compatibility Platform Matrix document published by Best that discusses the compatibility issues between workstation- and server-operating systems and MAS 90/200. For example, there are known issues between MAS 90/200 and the Windows XP workstation operating system which may need to be addressed before upgrading. Please contact Solution Strategists before upgrading your server or workstations to ensure a smooth transition for MAS 90/200 onto your new systems.

In the Spotlight:
Pat Russo

“I enjoy working with our clients. I want to be known as someone who can help our clients when they are in need of assistance and one who they can rely on,” said Pat Russo, Help Desk specialist. If you have called for technical support, chances are you have spoken to Pat. Her friendly, reassuring voice is a comfort to clients who need assistance.

Pat has been with Solution Strategists since 1999. She started in administration and quickly learned SSI’s own VARbase software, a client tracking and knowledgebase system. In this capacity, Pat was exposed to issues clients encountered while working with their MAS 90/200 applications. With this experience and her knowledge of VARbase, moving into the Help Desk position was a natural transition for her. Today, utilizing VARbase and DesktopStreaming, Pat is able to assist our clients and get their questions answered quickly. DesktopStreaming allows her to access a client’s workstation via the Internet and resolve issues immediately and efficiently.

Pat enjoys the team atmosphere at Solution Strategists. She has learned so much from everyone, making her more valuable to clients and SSI alike.

Pat gained her experience during her 29 years in International Customer Service and Sales. She works with MAS 90/200 internally as well as servicing our clients with support issues. She has taken various formal courses in MAS 90/200 including Data File Structures and Technical Support. When Pat is not helping our clients, she is working at her other full-time job, being a wife and mother of three.
